The Musicians’ Company has named David Pickard, director of the Proms, honorary fellow for 2018.
The fellowship is given annually for making a great impact on the music profession. Previous honorary fellows have included Clive Barda, Carl Davis and John Wilson.
Pickard said he was ‘delighted and flattered’ to have been chosen. He added: ‘I applaud the outstanding work of the Musicians’ Company in nurturing and developing young artists, and am proud to take on this title.’
He was chosen for having made youth music-making and youth audiences a major focus in this Proms season. Initiatives included two Proms dedicated to the BBC Ten Pieces project, and a series of weekend matinee concerts aimed at family audiences.
