Raphael Wallfisch joins London Mozart Players in celebration of the cello5:38, 6th December 2019
The London Mozart Players will be joined by cellist Raphael Wallfisch in two concerts next year in a celebration of the cello.
The first concert will take place on Thursday 30 January 2020 at St John’s Smith Square, featuring symphonies by Haydn and Mozart alongside cello works by Schumann and Tchaikovsky.
On Sunday 1 March 2020, the second concert will bring Croydon-born Wallfisch back to his home borough when joins the orchestra at their base, the church of St John the Evangelist in Upper Norwood. Titled ‘Cellofest’, the concert will be compèred by Classic FM presenter Sam Pittis and will present a programme which includes Romberg’s Cello Concerto No.4 in E minor alongside works by Tchaikovsky, Dvorak and Rossini. The concert in Upper Norwood is part of the LMP’s commitment to bringing classical music into the local community.
Wallfisch and the LMP are also to record two of Romberg’s concertos (Nos 4 and 6) for release in 2020.
