The Royal Northern College of Music’s Congregation of Awards took place on Tuesday 10 December 2019.

Pianist Stephen Hough was awarded Companionship of the RNCM, the College’s highest honour, and Fellowships were awarded to double bassist Leon Bosch and soprano Elizabeth Llewellyn.

Honorary Membership was presented to Dame Colette Bowe, chair of the UK Banking Standards Board and former chair of ABRSM; Mike Emmerich, member of the RNCM and Manchester Camerata Board of Governors and founder director of Metro Dynamics; Alison Godlee, alumna of the Royal Manchester College of Music and co-founder of the Haworth Trust; and Ms Xu Jian, regional general manager of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province of Poly Theatre Network, general manager of the Beijing Forbidden City Concert Hall, chairwoman of Beijing Capital Theatre Alliance and executive director of China Association of the Performing Arts and Beijing Association of the Performing Arts.

Professor Linda Merrick, RNCM principal, said: ‘I am delighted that Leon, Elizabeth, Dame Colette, Mike, Alison and Ms Xu are joining our distinguished list of honorands, dating back almost 50 years. I am also extremely proud to award Stephen with Companionship of the RNCM, in recognition of his exceptional and enduring contribution to the life of the college.’
