The Royal Philharmonic Society (RPS) has announced awards and prizes for composers and student musicians totalling £42,000, as part of its Young Musicians programme.

The programme offers a range of support to outstanding instrumentalists, ensembles and composers, including non-repayable grants for students in financial need to afford quality instruments.

This year’s support also includes commissions for seven young composers, to mark the 70th anniversary of the RPS Composition Prize. Their new works will be heard at events across the UK, including the Presteigne Festival and Cheltenham Festival 2019.
