Cellist Sheku-Kanneh Mason was presented with the 2019 PPL Classical Award at the O2 Silver Clef ceremony on Friday 5 July, held annually in support of independent music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins.
The awards, presented by broadcaster Edith Bowman and held at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House London, recognise and celebrate the powerful impact of music and raises money through a live auction. The event has raised over £11 million for the charity to date.
Kanneh-Mason was presented with the award by Mercury award-winning artist Sampha. He joins a list of past winners including Afie Boe & Michael Ball, Nicola Benedetti and Andrea Bocelli.
‘I’m so honoured to receive the PPL Classical Award! It is fantastic to be a part of this year’s O2 Silver Clef Awards and to be celebrating a charity that inspires and supports so many people,’ says Kanneh-Mason. ‘Music is such an important thing and, in a time where opportunities for access to music are being squeezed, it is more important than ever that we have a charity that is proving the ability of music to literally change lives.’
