Sounds of Spain: London Mozart Players and Craig Ogden10:36, 9th January 2020
The London Mozart Players will be joined by classical guitarist Craig Ogden in spring 2020 for a performance of Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, during two European-themed concerts.
Taking place at the Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall (Wednesday 29 April, 7.30pm) and Fairfield Halls in Croydon (Thursday 30 April, 7.30pm) the concerts will also feature Mozart’s ‘Linz’ Symphony (No. 36) and Mendelssohn’s ‘Italian’ Symphony (No. 4).
‘I’m delighted to be playing with the London Mozart Players in both the fantastic Fairfield Hall and Southbank’s Queen Elizabeth Hall,’ comments Ogden. ‘Rodrigo’s Aranjuez Concierto is the pinnacle of our concerto repertoire and it’s a huge privilege to play a piece that is so widely appreciated.’
Before the concert at Fairfield Halls, where the LMP is resident orchestra, Ogden will give a masterclass to students from Croydon Music and Arts, mentoring young guitar players who may not have had the opportunity to see the instrument played live in concert. In addition, Ogden will give a free lunchtime concert with his ensemble, the London Tango Trio, in the Fairfield Halls’ Arnhem Foyer on 17 March at 1.05pm.
Julia Desbruslais, LMP’s executive director, says: ‘We plan to flood both venues with some continental warmth in a programme that’s perfect for spring evenings. We are thrilled to be performing such an iconic piece as Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez with the brilliant Craig Ogden, not only a hugely talented musician but a wonderful ambassador for classical music. These concerts, under the baton of the talented Jonathan Bloxham, will be absolutely magical.’
