St John’s Smith Square reveals 2019/20 Young Artists

9:39, 3rd December 2019

St John’s Smith Square has revealed the three newest members of its Young Artists’ Scheme.

The 2019/20 Young Artists are:

Created with the aim of supporting emerging artists and helping them to develop their careers, the scheme awards a minimum of three performance dates in St John’s Smith Square over the course of the concert season, alongside guidance and support from the staff to undertake a number of other projects in marketing, commissioning and outreach.

‘Working with young artists as they develop their creative personalities can be one of the most rewarding aspects of life in a concert hall,’ says Richard Heason, director of St John’s Smith Square. ‘This particular scheme is something we all feel very proud of here at St John’s which is why it’s so exciting to welcome Improviso, Joseph and the Barbican Quartet on to the programme for the year to come.’

Each group or soloist is awarded a grant which can be put towards a marketing initiative such as photo or video shoots, advertising in print publications and website design, with the support of the St John’s Smith Square marketing team. St John’s Smith Square also provides a fund for each artist to commission a composer to write a new work or to work on a new edition of a piece of early music, which will be performed at one of the three performances during their year on the scheme. As part of the outreach and education category, the artists are given training in outreach work and are supported in designing and implementing their own educational workshops.
