The ISM releases ‘How to… Negotiate a contract’4:17, 6th November 2019
The ISM has announced the release of its ‘How to…Negotiate a contract’ resource, the latest in its ‘How to…’ online series.
Building on practical industry advice offered at the ISM’s The Empowered Musician event held in October 2018, the series highlights the skills and knowledge that musicians need to succeed in their career, with previous resources including ‘How to… Work with an artist manager and ‘How to… Write a DIY release marketing plan.’
‘How to… Negotiate a contract’, written by lawyer and founder of VLT Legal Victoria Barrett, provides guidance on the contract process including tips for getting the best out of a contract and the basic tools to aid musicians in negotiations. Barrett previously worked as a freelance oboist and in artist management before studying law and qualifying as a solicitor. She then moved onto the Music Publishers Association before forming VLT Legal.
