Warner Classics announces first complete edition of Berlioz recordings1:53, 4th December 2018
Berlioz: The Complete Works is the first complete edition of the composer’s works, featuring milestone recordings selected from over 60 years of the Warner Classics, Erato and Universal catalogues.
The 27 CD set has been conceived in partnership with the Hector Berlioz Museum and Hector Berlioz Festival, and will be released in 2019 to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the composer’s death.
Among the recordings are Les Troyens conducted by John Nelson; Symphonie Fantastique and Lélio conducted by Jean Martinon; Janet Baker singing Les Nuits d’été conducted by Sir John Barbirolli, and L’Enfance du Christ conducted by John Eliot Gardiner.
The edition also contains a number of world premiere recordings, including the surviving fragments of the unfinished opera La Nonne sanglante. It also includes two of the earliest recordings of Berlioz’s music, produced by Pathé at the beginning of 20th century: two of Didon’s arias from Les Troyens are sung by Marie Delna and Félia Litvinne, and for the first time on CD the first recording of Symphonie Fantastique conducted by Rhené-Baton, recorded in 1923.
The edition will be released on 1 February 2019.
