Blüthner presents Wimbledon Piano Classics concert series11:11, 2nd October 2019
German piano manufacturer Blüthner and the Royal College of Music, London, present the Wimbledon Piano Classics concert series this month
The concert series, which runs from 10 to 12 October 2019 in Wimbledon, London, features recitals by pianists Sofya Gulyak, Martin James Bartlett and George Harliono. The RCM’s head of keyboard, Professor Vanessa Latarche, will give a piano masterclass, and Simon Lepper will accompany mezzo-soprano Anna Huntley in a concert of songs exploring young women and love.
Further details are as follows:
- Thursday 10 October, 7:30pm: Russian pianist Sofya Gulyak, who won first prize and the Princess Mary Gold Medal at the Leeds Competition in 2009, presents a programme of Bach-Busoni, Brahms, Chopin, Rachmaninov and Prokofiev.
- Friday 11 October, 4:30pm: Vanessa Latarche will share artistic guidance in a free piano masterclass, before providing insight on life at the RCM and giving practical advice on auditions, funding and career opportunities.
- Friday 11 October, 7:30pm: mezzo-soprano Anna Huntley appears with Simon Lepper, singing repertoire from Schubert and Schumann to Carlos Guastavino and Kurt Weil.
- Saturday 12 October, 7:30pm: Martin James Bartlett (winner of BBC Young Musician 2014) and George Harliono present a selection of works by Mozart, Gershwin, Grieg, Liszt and others. They will also play Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances Op 72/2 and Op 46/8 as a piano duet.
Blüthner was founded in 1853 in Leipzig by Julius Blüthner and has since garnered an extensive list of advocates, including Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Rachmaninov, Brahms, Mahler, Bartók, Debussy, Wagner, The Beatles and Ariana Grande. A family-led business, Blüthner pianos continue to be hand-crafted in Leipzig today.
