British pianist Maria Marchant calls for scores to showcase online4:12, 16th July 2020
British pianist and conductor Maria Marchant has launched a new initiative called ‘7 Notes in 7 Days at 7pm’, which sees her give the world premiere of a new composition every Monday evening at 19:00 BST via her professional Facebook page.
All performances to date have taken place at Marchant’s home, but from Monday 20 July the weekly series will be livestreamed from London’s Blüthner Piano Centre.
The episode scheduled for Monday 27 July features a world premiere by baritone and composer Roderick Williams. Chaconne at Five was written during Williams’ teenage years but lay buried in a drawer until its recent rediscovery.
Marchant hopes Williams’ piece will inspire other budding composers, and has issued an open call for scores to showcase online. Composers already featured in her weekly series include Charlotte Botterill, Joanna Gill and Jorge Ramos.
Marchant said: ‘Contemporary music has always been an important part of my life and I have been thrilled to see such a great response to my project at a time when the classical music industry has been massively affected by the pandemic. I hope that the world premiere of Roderick Williams’ Chaconne at Five which he wrote in his student days will inspire other young composers to send me their pieces and share them with the world!’
Composers are invited to email scores for consideration to firstname.lastname@example.org
