First state school in England to achieve All-Steinway status

11:59, 8th January 2020

The Royal Alexandra and Albert School in Surrey will this year become the first All-Steinway state school in England

Eight new Steinway pianos, including two concert grands, will be delivered to the school this summer. Piano lessons will take place on the instruments and they will be used for recitals and performances by pupils and visiting musicians.

The Royal Alexandra and Albert School will be the first state school to join the group of 25 schools in England that use exclusively Steinway pianos for music tuition, paving the way for other state schools to join the All-Steinway School programme.

Headmaster Mark Dixon said, ‘I am delighted that this school, which is a comprehensive state boarding school, can offer pupils unrivalled opportunities with these new instruments. We already have a very strong music department with some amazing musicians, and the Steinway pianos will take music at this school to another level.

‘This January we are launching Steinway Music Scholarships which will attract talented musicians who want to develop their musical skills on Steinway pianos.’
