Hastings piano competition to become biennial event

10:53, 5th November 2018

Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition is to become a biennial event after its next instalment in 2019.

Formerly part of the Hastings Music Festival, the competition has an illustrious history stretching back over 100 years. It was relaunched in 2005 and celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2014 under the artistic direction of pianist Frank Wibaut.

‘The most exciting thing about going every two years is that we’ll have the time to develop the competition’, said Wibaut. ‘We’ll be able to make it more exhilarating for the audience and offer more opportunities – including concerts – for our contestants.

‘Going biennial will also help us develop our outreach and education programme,’ he continued, ‘and will help us develop our very important relationship with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.’

The 2019 competition will take place from 21 Feburary to 2 March 2019 at the White Rock Theatre in Hastings.

The closing date for applications is 26 November. Contestants must be aged between 16 and 30 for the duration of the competition. For more information and to enter visit www.hastingsconcertocompetition.co.uk/enter-the-competition
