Montana’s Tippet Rise Art Center launches online piano initiatives8:24, 30th July 2020
Tippet Rise Art Center in Montana, US, has announced two new online initiatives, adding to its website’s existing offering of films, performances, interviews, podcasts and photography.
Following the cancellation of the centre’s seven-week summer series due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tippet Rise is launching a library of free music downloads in high resolution format and a monthly virtual concert series, ‘Tippet Rise & Friends at Home’, comprising video streams of past performances.
The Tippet Rise Downloads Library offers high quality recordings by pianists Jenny Chen, Peter Halstead and Pedja Mužijević. More recording will be added as the library grows, including performances by Adam Golka, Julien Brocal, Michael Brown and Roman Rabinovich. Downloads will be accompanied by a digital book containing artist biographies, programme notes, essays and photos, plus technical information about the recordings. The recordings will also be available on Spotify and AmazonHD at a later date.
Monthly video streams of previously unreleased concerts from past seasons were launched on 16 July with a recital by Uzbek pianist Behzod Abduraimov. Future episodes will see performances by Stephen Hough (13 August) and Escher String Quartet (10 September), followed this autumn/winter by pianists Yevgeny Sudbin and George Li, violinist Vadim Gluzman, cellist Johannes Moser and the JACK Quartet.
All recordings were made in the art centre’s concert hall, the Olivier Music Barn, designed by the renowned firm Arup Engineering and captured from its state-of-the-art recording studio or at Domo – an acoustically-rich sculptural structure designed by the Spanish architects Ensamble Studio.
‘During these unprecedented times when Tippet Rise finds itself closed to the public, we wanted to find new ways to share the beautiful music recorded in one of the world’s most resonant contemporary concert halls,’ said Peter Halstead, co-founder of Tippet Rise Art Center. ‘Using the digital audio format digital eXtreme definition (DXD), we have been able to capture those performances with incredible clarity. We recommend wearing headphones while listening for an enveloping experience, plus headphone amps/converters for ultimate warmth and three-dimensionality.’
Tippet Rise Art Center is located in Fishtail, Montana against the backdrop of the Beartooth Mountains, just north of Yellowstone National Park. Set on a 12,000-acre working sheep and cattle ranch, Tippet Rise hosts classical music performances and exhibits large-scale outdoor sculptures. Programming at the centre explores the relationship between art, music, architecture and nature. The Olivier Music Barn has been awarded LEED Gold certification from the US Green Building Council for its environmentally sustainable design.
