Philadelphia Young Pianists’ Academy launches digital festival

9:20, 30th July 2020

The Philadelphia Young Pianists’ Academy (PYPA) has launched its first-ever digital piano festival, online from 1 to 9 August. Highlights include 126 hours of celebrity masterclasses, six exclusive studio concerts with Q&A sessions, and two insider lectures and panel discussions.

The festival also incorporates the 2020 Philadelphia International Piano Competition. Two prizes are on offer for the best livestreamed performances by this year’s young artists. Both winners will qualify automatically for next year’s PYPA Piano Festival in Philadelphia.

The 2020 PYPA ONLINE Piano Festival faculty includes Ching-Yun Hu (PYPA founder and artistic director), Gary Graffman (former Curtis Institute president), Pierre Van Der Westhuizen (director, Gilmore Keyboard Festival), Idith Zvi (emeritus artistic director, Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition), Gila Goldstein (professor at Boston University and director for Tanglewood Festival’s Young Artists Program), Jerome Lowenthal (Juilliard faculty member) and Ursula Oppens.

The Livestream Awards can be accessed via PYPA’s Facebook page, while all other events (masterclasses, studio concerts, lectures) will be available via Zoom. Tickets for the exclusive events are available from pypa.info
