‘Steinway Family’ turns 25

6:21, 8th November 2017

Steinway & Sons is celebrating 25 years of the ‘Steinway Family’ – its trio of brands comprising Steinway & Sons, Boston and Essex.

The Boston and Essex lines have been developed over the past 25 years, each featuring characteristics and a selection of patents and designs of Steinway & Sons. Anyone who purchases a Boston or Essex piano becomes part of the Steinway Family: the Steinway Promise means that customers can trade in their Boston or Essex piano at any time within ten years to receive a trade-in credit equal to the original purchase price.

Boston caters for the intermediate level, while Essex is considered the best entry-level piano of Steinway & Sons. The designs have been overseen by the company’s senior mechanical engineer, Susan Kenagy. Both lines feature numerous original Steinway patents, premium materials and Steinway’s technological expertise.

Two special editions are being launched to mark the anniversary: the Boston GP-178 Performance Edition II 25th Anniversary Limited Edition, featuring chrome fittings, pedals and casters, as well as a silver iron plate instead of gold and black felt throughout. Boston is also introducing the Rainbow Collection, which gives customers a choice of more than 170 colours to adorn the inside of the piano’s lid.
