Anthea Turner talks to young musicians about the vital role that music education has played in their lives
A music education documentary will air on London Live this evening2:44, 15th October 2019
Casio Music has partnered with London Live to produce a documentary that focuses on the importance of music education.
Part of Anthea Turner’s Hot Topics on London Live, which sees Turner investigate stories that have a huge impact on the UK, the documentary focuses on unveiling some of London’s most talented young artists. Featuring interviews with music educators, music therapists and professional pianists, such as London soul star Jodie Abacus, the documentary follows the stories of those who have benefited from a rich and fulfilling musical education. It also features London-based vocalist Luena Martinez who, after struggling with depression, found support from SoundSkool, a London-based music college, who helped her to believe in herself and her talent.
Anthea Turner said: ‘Music is more than just a hobby – it’s a part of the social fabric of our communities in London and beyond. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting the grassroots organisations that understand the importance of music education and the crucial role it plays in improving mental health and enriching the lives of young people. The future of the UK’s emerging talent is bright, and inspiring community movements continue to persevere despite severe under funding, but the nation needs to be doing more. The more we support music education, the more opportunities are created which will help future generations to access the magic of music.’
Head of Casio Music UK, Neil Evans commented: ‘Music has the power to transform lives, which is why we are delighted to join forces with London Live to explore the current state of music education in the UK. Anything we can do to raise the importance of music education will help inspire a whole new generation of musicians. Musical experiences can have a positive impact on mental health and wellbeing, so it is vital that these opportunities are accessible to all.’
The programme will air on London Live this evening at 7.30pm
