2:16, 20th March 2017

Conservatoires UK (CUK) has announced Professor Linda Merrick as its new chair. She succeeds Hilary Boulding, who steps down this month.

Professor Merrick is currently principal of the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). She joined the RNCM as director of performance studies in 2001, becoming its vice-principal in 2006, acting principal in 2012, and principal in January 2013.

In addition to maintaining a career as a professional clarinettist, she is a member of numerous specialist bodies within the arts and higher education sectors, and is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy and the Royal Society of Arts.

With a membership comprising 11 conservatoires, CMUK aims to develop best practice for training and education in the performing arts and to promote the sector’s excellence nationally and globally.
