Dame Evelyn Glennie to receive honorary doctorate

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland is to present percussionist and teacher Dame Evelyn Glennie with the honorary degree of Doctor of Music.

Honorary doctorates will also be awarded to Darcey Bussell CBE, former principal ballerina with the Royal Ballet, and Professor Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, a composer and musician, and the founding director of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance at the University of Limerick.

Professor Jeffrey Sharkey, principal of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, will confer the honorary degrees at the conservatoire’s graduation ceremonies. He described Glennie, Bussell and Ó Súilleabháin as ‘dynamic and creative individuals who have made significant contributions to the cultural landscape.’
