National Youth Orchestras of Scotland announce 2017 season7:00, 9th February 2017
The theme for the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland’s 2017 season is The Americas, with each ensemble performing a selection of works directly linked to or inspired by the Americas.
Guest conductors include Tecwyn Evans, Maxime Tortelier, Holly Mathieson and Thierry Fisher, and the orchestras will be joined by soloists and guest artists including Chloë Hanslip, Sarah Ayoub, Malcolm MacFarlane and Colin Currie.
Tortelier will work with the NYOS Senior Orchestra for the first time, and Fischer will conduct the NYOS Symphony Orchestra during its 2017 summer tour, with dates in Aberdeen, Perth and Glasgow. He and the orchestra will be joined by NYOS alumnus and patron Colin Currie to give the Scottish premiere of Andrew Norman’s percussion concerto Switch.
The NYOS Jazz Collective will perform in the Late Night Studio Jazz series on 30 April at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall. Later in the year, the NYOS Jazz Orchestra will welcome guitarist Malcolm MacFarlane as a guest artist, and will be joined by the the NYOS Jazz Choir on its summer tour of Scotland.
