The MU launches Coronavirus £1m hardship fund

11:11, 24th March 2020

With the COVID-19 pandemic cancelling work for teachers and performers, the Musician’s Union (MU) has set up a hardship fund of £1m to support members.

The MU has emphasised that the funding is only available for those with a ‘genuine’ and ‘pressing need’ and must not be seen as a fee replacement fund. Those eligible for funding are current MU members who:

  • Have been in continuous membership of the MU for the last twelve months or more
  • Are currently paying the full MU membership subscription rate
  • Are a UK resident
  • Are suffering genuine hardship from loss of work due to the Coronavirus pandemic
  • Have not already successfully received a payment from the MU Coronavirus Hardship Fund

The MU are currently capping individual grants at £200 while they monitor the level of applications.
