ETO presents digital programme10:27, 17th November 2020
Following the cancellation of its November performances due to the UK’s national lockdown, English Touring Opera (ETO) presents a digital programme this Autumn
The opera company was forced to cancel the remainder of its touring programme of lyric monodramas, ‘Lyric Solitude’, scheduled to take place in London, Greater Manchester, Dorset and Essex. Instead, ETO has filmed excerpts from ‘Lyric Solitude’ on stage at the Hackney Empire, London, to be broadcast over the Christmas period.
The broadcast programme comprises:
- Britten: A Charm of Lullabies
- Britten: The Holy Sonnets of John Donne
- Britten: The Poet’s Echo
- Shostakovich: Poems of Marina Tsvetaeva
- Shostakovich: Romances on British Poetry
- Tippett: Boyhood’s End
- Tippett: The Heart’s Assurance
Dates and times of the broadcasts will be announced in the coming days.
ETO’s free digital season programme may be accessed by signing up to the company’s mailing list at englishtouringopera.org.uk. The resource includes interviews and articles on the works in ‘Lyric Solitude’, as well as readings of some of the featured poems. ETO is also currently broadcasting a new opera for children by Noah Mosley, based on Chris Haughton’s best-selling book Shh! We have a plan. The opera is available to watch on ETO’s YouTube channel until 25 January 2021.
Customers holding tickets for the cancelled November performances will be contacted directly by the relevant theatres to arrange refunds. ETO intends to deliver its scheduled live performances in December.
