Glyndebourne Opera Cup 2020 semi-finalists announced

The semi-finalists for the 2020 Glyndebourne Opera Cup have been announced

The competition attracted over 200 entrants from 39 different countries. Following preliminary rounds, 19 singers aged 22 to 31 have been invited to take part in the semi-final at Glyndebourne on 4 March.

The semi-finalists will compete for one of six places in the Opera Cup final on 7 March, which will be broadcast live on Sky Arts and presented by comedian and writer Chris Addison and soprano Danielle de Niese. The winner will receive £15,000 and the guarantee of a role within five years at one of the top opera houses represented by the competition jury.

The 2020 semi-finalists are:

  • Miriam Luisa Kutrowatz, 22, soprano (Austria)
  • Alexandra Lowe, 28, soprano (UK)
  • Lauren Margison, 27, soprano (Canada)
  • Timothy Murray, 27, baritone (USA)
  • John Matthew Myers, 31, tenor (USA)
  • Edward Nelson, 31, baritone (USA)
  • Gabriel Rollinson, 27, bass-baritone (Germany/USA)
  • Dominic Sedgwick, 29, baritone (UK)
  • Olga Syniakova, 31, mezzo-soprano (Ukraine)
  • Johanna Wallroth, 26, soprano (Sweden)
  • Meigui Zhang, 26, soprano (China)

Dame Janet Baker, honorary president of the Glyndebourne Opera Cup, will adjudicate at the final of the competition and present the prizes. The competition jury also includes, among others, Stephen Langridge (artistic director of Glyndebourne), Michel Franck (general director of the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées), Sir Thomas Allen and Dame Felicity Lott.
