Irish National Opera announces first appointments

9:41, 12th December 2017

Irish National Opera (INO) has announced a number of key appointments.

Fergus Sheil, artistic director of Wide Open Opera and Opera Theatre Company, will take up the post of artistic director, and Diego Fasciati, who has held executive positions at Boston Lyric Opera and Opera Theatre Company, has been appointed executive director.

Other team members include Gavin O’Sullivan as head of production, Sorcha Carroll as marketing manager and Cate Kelliher as office and finance manager.

INO has been created through the merging of Wide Open Opera and Opera Theatre Company. Earlier this year, the Arts Council selected the company as the ‘preferred provider of main-scale opera in Dublin from 2018’.

INO plans to create both full-scale productions that will be seen in Dublin and other cities and smaller-scale shows that will tour throughout Ireland. The company will have a particular focus on employing the best of Irish singers and creative teams, and will nurture emerging home-grown talent.

The programme for INO’s first season will be unveiled at the company’s inaugural concert, which will take place at the National Concert Hall on 9 January. The concert will feature leading Irish singers in a selection of arias and ensembles, with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Fergus Sheil.
