Stephanie Blythe wins 2019 Maria Callas award

The Dallas Opera has announced American mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe as the winner of the 2019 Maria Callas Debut Artist of the Year award

Blythe was presented the award for her portrayal of Mistress Quickly in Dallas Opera’s spring production of Verdi’s Falstaff.

The Maria Callas award is presented each year in recognition of an outstanding company debut. Blythe was named the winner at the annual Dallas Opera Board and Trustee Appreciation Dinner on 13th June.

Blythe will be assuming the position of Artistic Director of the Graduate Vocal Arts Program at Bard College Conservatory of Music in July. Former awards include the 2007 Opera News Award and the 1999 Richard Tucker Award.
