Michael WhiteDepartment: Contributor Biography
Once voted Britain’s least boring music critic by listeners to Classic FM – an accolade of sorts – Michael White studied at Oxford, began writing for the Guardian, was chief critic at the Independent, and now contributes to the Telegraph and New York Times. As a broadcaster he’s presented BBC series like Opera in Action and Best of 3, attempted to explain the Ring Cycle in half an hour, fronted Cardiff Singer of the World, and made documentaries on Menotti, Walton and soprano Jennifer Vyvyan. He lectures internationally, leads study days at Wigmore Hall, and writes opera libretti. His books include Introducing Wagner (Icon), a graphic guide for the curious but unsure, and Opera & Operetta (HarperCollins).
