Charles Owen

ReLIVE the recital - 9 September 2014

As professor of piano at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Charles Owen is recognised as one of the leading pianists of his generation. The music for his recital on 9 September 2014 was specially chosen to link with his New York debut at the Frick Collection, home to some of the world’s greatest paintings. Six Debussy préludes – evoking musical images from a turbulent Atlantic storm to a troop of lively music hall performers – were featured alongside Bach’s B flat major Partita, Mendelssohn’s Variations Op 54, and the London premiere of Nico Muhly’s post-minimalist Short Stuff.

“Owen brought a wonderful variety of tone colour to the piece, giving a committed and engrossing performance which belied the dazzling finger-work”

Robert Hugill, 'Charles Owen at Rhinegold LIVE'

“Each piece was characterized beautifully, creating an atmospheric aura employing a sea of tonal luminosity”

Melanie Spanswick, 'Charles Owen’s Recital for Rhinegold LIVE at Conway Hall'
